How to Create a Daily Skin Care Routine

Como criar uma Rotina Diária de Cuidados de Pele
True beauty comes from small steps that are taken daily, in a few minutes, every day. A good diet, a healthy lifestyle and small daily skin care gestures have more impact than going to a Spa every 3 months for a skin treatment or a mask every now and then.

In this post we will focus on the Daily Skin Care Routine.

As a general rule, after cleansing the skin (which is the most important step in any skin care routine), you should apply the most light to heaviest, in terms of textures. So, you should start with products based on water and gel, and finish with creams and oils. It should also be noted that products used for treatments, such as acne products or concentrated serums, should be applied as close to the skin as possible.
Our skin care routine suggestion applies to everyone, regardless of whether they are male or female, and whether they use natural or conventional products.
The difference between a conventional routine and a natural routine is only in the ingredients. The world of natural beauty has the same types of cleansers, toners, serums, oils and creams that the most conventional brands sold on the market.

The purpose of morning skin care is to prepare the skin for the day and protect it from the external aggressors we are exposed to daily.

Step 1

Cleaning

If you are tempted to skip your morning facial, ask yourself how often you change your pillowcase. Most likely it will only be changed once a week. In other words, your skin is accumulating dirt, sweat and sebum not from one night, but from all the previous ones.
We recommend choosing a cleansing product gentle and refreshing to cleanse the skin and awaken the senses. Apply the product on dry skin, massage well with circular movements, focusing on the areas that tend to accumulate the most dirt: the corners of the nose, the chin, and the center of the forehead. Remove the product with warm water. If you don't like to splash water on your face in the morning, use a small damp washcloth to remove the product well.

Step 2

Moisturizing Tonic

The tonics moisturizers have evolved a lot over the years and we are far from the times when this step was full of products at based on alcohol, whose function was to "close the pores". Today's hydrating toners are packed with beneficial, nourishing botanicals like hyaluronic acid, antioxidants and floral waters. They are absolutely essential for all skin types, even for oily skin, which despite the apparent oiliness can still be dehydrated.

Step 3

Eye Cream

As a rule, eye creams are lighter and more delicate than moisturizing creams For this reason, they should be applied as a treatment : the closer to the skin the better. That's why it should be applied before all other steps, to ensure that your nutrients get where we want them.

Step 4

Serums / Oils

The type of serum to choose depends on the specific skin concern. There are already serums and oils for all types of skin problems: oily, dry, mature, or acne-prone skin. There are serums to brighten the skin, to treat pigmentation spots and to nourish dehydrated skin. You can use more than one serum or oil. And here the rule of using the lightest products first applies. First apply water-based serums and then apply the heavier ones. The oils can be applied at the end, or they can even be mixed with the moisturizer.

Step 5

Moisturizing Cream

The moisturizing cream seals all other skin care layers, ensures the skin is protected and provides hydration to its top layer . The type of cream you use is dictated by your preference and the needs of your skin. There are lighter, water-based creams and richer creams that contain oils. Use the one you know your skin absorbs well and makes your skin feel more comfortable.

Step 6

Sunscreen

Even if the moisturizer has sun protection, we always recommend that you apply an additional layer of sunscreen at the end of your morning routine, especially if you use exfoliating acids (AHAs or BHAs) or anti-aging treatments (Vitamin A and Retinols). Sunscreen is also what will ensure that your skin stays young and luminous for longer. If you don't use sun protection, any anti-aging treatment you use now or will be trying to fight irreversible damage from the sun.

The purpose of night skin care is to cleanse the skin well of all the dirt that accumulates throughout the day and help it to do its night repair work

Step 1

First Clean

A first cleaning uses to remove oil-based dirt: make-up, sunscreen and the surface layer of dirt and pollution that accumulates on the skin throughout the day (see our blog article Double Cleansing - the art of cleaning the skin twice). Makeup and sunscreen are formulated to stay on the skin, so we recommend using an oil-based or balm-based product for this step. Remove with a damp face towel (you can use the same one you used in the morning, and put it in the wash after cleaning at night).

For all skin types: Grapeseed Butter Cleanser da Antipodes

Step 2

Second Cleaning

The second cleanse goes deeper, to release water-based grime, dead skin cells, and more stubborn pollution that builds up deep in pores. You can use the same product you use in the morning, or have a different product, depending on your personal preference.

Step 3

Exfoliating

The purpose of this step is to help shed dead skin cells. Not everyone needs to do this every day. For most people 1-3 times a week is enough. Exfoliation can be done in two ways:
  • Using small particles that make a manual massage to release dead cells and deep dirt from the pores. This is the best known, and we just recommend that you take care that your exfoliator is based on natural products (sugar, coffee, etc.) on your skin, imperceptible to the naked eye, but which in the long term will cause healing problems.
  • Alternatively, you can use toners, lotions or exfoliating masks, based on acids (AHAs and BHAs) and fruit enzymes. These ingredients break the bonds between dead and living cells and help to release dirt trapped in pores.

For normal and combination/oily skin: Clear Start Flashfoliant Exfoliating Toner
For all skin types: Rose Quartz Facial Scrub

For dry skin: Oskia Micro Exfoliating Balm

Step 4

Eye Cream

It can be the same cream used in the morning or, for more mature skins, you can use a cream with vitamin A or retinol that helps fight the appearance of signs of aging.
Step 5

Serums / Oils

Also similar to the morning routine, the night serums are chosen according to the skin's needs. You can choose to use different ones or use the same ones. For example, you can use a brightening serum or a hydrating serum in the morning, and a repairing or anti-aging serum at night.Or have the 4 serums and alternate according to the skin's needs each day. If you have serums, oils or treatments that contain Vitamin A or Retinol, use them at night, as you will not be exposed to the sun.

Step 6

Moisturizing Cream

Finally, the moisturizing cream will seal the skin care and moisturize the surface layer of the skin. You can use the same cream you used in the morning, as long as that cream doesn't have sun protection. If your morning cream has sun protection, choose to invest in a separate night cream. Take the opportunity to look for one that has anti-inflammatory ingredients and rich in antioxidants, which will help the skin in its night cellular repair work.
